Creation House does not publish every manuscript that is submitted to us. Our editors will review your manuscript and decide whether it fits our publishing criteria.


How do I submit my manuscript?

Is there a particular format required for a submitted manuscript?

The format we prefer is a single Microsoft Word document with the text either double-spaced or single-spaced, and written in English.


May I submit my manuscript by snail mail?

The mailed submission must include answers to the questions in our online application as well as a digital version of your complete manuscript on a disk or USB flash drive. Please do not send originals of your work; send only copies.

May I call you to discuss my manuscript?

Before we discuss a manuscript, we ask to first see the manuscript. After your manuscript is reviewed, and if it is accepted for publication, we will let you know what options we can offer. At that time, you may call to discuss the details. If your manuscript is declined, we will notify you. However, it is our policy not to discuss the reasons that a manuscript is declined.


How can I find out if my submission has been received?

How long is the review process?

Allow up to 30 days for your submission to be reviewed and a written response sent to you regarding the decision. Every submission is reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. How will I be notified once my proposal has been reviewed?

You will be sent a letter by e-mail or mail.


What happens if my manuscript is not accepted?

You will receive a decline letter by email or mail, and your material will be returned to you only if you have enclosed a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) at the time of sending the submission. If there is not an SASE, the proposal will be discarded at the time the decline letter is sent.


May I speak to an editor regarding the reason my manuscript was declined?

It is our policy not to discuss the reasons that a manuscript is declined.


How do I have my submission returned to me?

If you mail your submission to us and wish to have your materials returned to you following our review, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) that is big enough for returning your materials. If we do not receive a SASE, your materials will be discarded.



How long do you hold on to the submissions?

If a submission is accepted for publication, but the author does not respond to our offer letter within six months, we will discard the file due to space constraints. If mailed submissions include a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE), we will return the materials using the SASE. With declined submissions, materials are discarded immediately following the review unless a SASE is provided.


Do you publish Spanish books or translate English books into Spanish?

Does it cost to send my manuscript to be reviewed?

No. We do not charge to review manuscripts.


If I have written more than one book or a series of books, can I send all at one time?

Yes, we do accept simultaneous proposals from an author. However, a separate application must be filled out for each manuscript, with that individual manuscript attached.



Can I send in a book that has been published before?

Yes, as long as you own the publishing rights or the original publisher has returned the rights to you.

Does my book have to have an ISBN number or copyright before I submit it?

No. If your book is accepted and contracted, we will assign the ISBN and apply for the book's copyright with the Library of Congress. For more information on copyrights, contact the Library of Congress or visit www.copyright.gov.


Do you take my submission or information and use it for other publishing mediums?

No. Your manuscript and information are confidential. We will not use any of your material without your approval.


What are your royalty rates? What rights does an author receive? What is the cost of my book?

These questions are discussed in detail during the negotiation process after a book has been accepted.


Do I need to get permission to quote another book or source?

Yes. All quoted material must be properly attributed using the guidelines of the Chicago Manual of Style.When quoted material exceeds 300 words in length, written permission is required, including quotes from internet sources, unless the quoted material is in public domain. Written permission is needed for song lyrics, graphics, such as maps, tables, charts, line drawings, artwork, or photographs, unless the work is your own. The use of a poem also requires written permission. A line or two may be quoted without permission if a source citation is provided.



Do I need permission from my friend to use her name in my book?

If you are using a name or story of a friend, pastor, spouse, etc., in your book, you must have permission in writing to use the story or name.



Will you design my book cover?

Yes. Once you sign a contract with us, our design team will create a cover for your book, incorporating ideas or concepts that you may have. You will have to approve the cover composition before the book is printed.



Will you edit my text?

Yes. All of our publishing packages include professional copy editing to bring the text into compliance with The Chicago Manual of Style. If substantive editing is needed, we can also provide that as part of the editorial process. You will have to approve the edited text before the book is printed.



Do you know of someone who will write or put my book together?

We are not able to provide names of freelance writers, editors, or designers to the public.


Do you publish poetry?

Yes, we publish certain types of poetry, especially in the format of a gift book or devotional.



My book is already published. Will you distribute and market the book?

We do not distribute or market other publishers' books. However, if you still hold all the rights for your previously published work, we can consider publishing a new edition of that work, with the understanding that the previous edition must be discontinued.



Will you provide marketing for my book?

Yes. All of our publishing packages include a marketing plan.



Will you be able to get my book into bookstores?

We will make your book available to all major bookstore chains, Christian and secular, as well as thousands of independent bookstores across the country. It will also be made available to booksellers around the world. However, there is never a guarantee that any book will be carried by bookstores. It is up to the bookstore managers to decide if they will purchase the book and put it in their stores.
